The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applicants for an Administrative Assistant or Intermediate Administrative Assistant to perform clerical and administrative work for the section of Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health. Administrative Assistants perform work of a clerical nature, providing office support under direct supervision. Work is typically repetitive and follows consistent practice and established procedures.
The UVA Department of Pediatrics and the UVA Health Children’s share a common goal to enhance the health and well-being of children and families through collaborative medical care, education of professionals dedicated to pediatric healthcare, breakthrough research that improves lives, leadership, and community service.

This candidate will be expected to collaborate and provide cross coverage to the division of Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics, and can be reassigned to another division within the department if needed.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Type memos, correspondence, forms, and technical or confidential reports.
Receive and screen incoming calls and mail, answer routine inquiries, and route calls to the appropriate individual.
Maintain calendars. Schedule and confirm appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements.
Review and answer standard correspondence.
Greet and screen visitors and provide customer support, as needed.
Provide division-level support to various areas within the department, as needed.
Manage division office space.
Edit faculty CVs as needed/requested.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties will be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Administrative Assistant
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: None
- Intermediate Administrative Assistant
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: At least one year of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Positive attitude and commitment to the task at hand.
Ability to take ownership over tasks and complete them with attention to detail in mind.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. This is an Non-Exempt level, benefited position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
References will be completed via UVA’s standardized process Skill Survey. A total of five references will be requested via SkillSurvey during the final phase of the interview process.
Physical Demands:
This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. This position will be in person, on site Monday through Friday (this is not a remote/virtual work position).
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
